For "virtual server" farms running Linux servers under z/VM, you will want the high level information about z/VM performance showing the resource utilization for the "farm", and the Linux performance data from the individual servers. ESALPS provides both in a fully integrated manner.

As you move Linux workloads to z/VM, ESALPS provides the ability to measure the workload and it’s processor and storage requirements and build a projection of what the requirements will be when running the workload under z/VM.

ESALPS includes all of the Velocity Software products, providing full performance analysis and capacity planning functionality:

• Performance data for Linux servers running under z/VM or on dedicated servers.
• Capacity planning data for Linux servers maintained in a PDB
• Web interface provided for your users
• VM Host performance and capacity planning data for detailed analysis.

ESALPS uses all standard interfaces so that release to release upgrades are painless and inexpensive. Velocity Software uses the VM Monitor and standard SNMP data sources to provide input. As these data sources are further developed, ESALPS will be enhanced to include any new information.

ESALPS Components:

• ESATCP is Velocity Software’s Network Performance Monitor. For Linux, ESATCP has been extended to support gathering data from Linux servers, either under z/VM or remote. In addition, other Unix platforms are supported.
• ESAMON for 3270 display of performance data, both z/VM and Linux
• ESAMAP for historical reporting and long term analysis
• ESAWEB for web based display of data
